History

Descended from domestic cats brought to Britain by the Romans, British Shorthairs are one of the oldest pedigree cat breeds. They were among the first cats exhibited at the 1871 Crystal Palace Cat Show, though the breed nearly went extinct after World War II and was revived by crossing with Persians.

Calm, undemanding, affectionate but not clingy. Good with children and other pets.

Twice-weekly brushing to manage shedding. Prone to obesity โ€” monitor diet carefully. Generally a very healthy and low-maintenance breed.
