Tiny, curious, and full of personality โ perfect pocket pets.
Hamsters are beloved small pets known for their pouchy cheeks, wheel-running antics, and surprisingly bold personalities. They are naturally solitary animals (most species) that thrive with proper enrichment and a spacious setup.
Hamsters were first discovered by Western science in 1839 when British zoologist George Robert Waterhouse described a specimen collected in Syria. The Syrian hamster wasn't domesticated until 1930, when zoologist Israel Aharoni captured a mother and her litter in the Syrian desert. Nearly all pet Syrian hamsters today descend from that single wild litter.
