Peruvian

About

Peruvians are the showstoppers of the guinea pig world โ€” their silky, floor-length hair grows up to 20 inches and parts down the middle of their back. They are as high-maintenance as they are gorgeous.

History

The Peruvian is one of the oldest long-haired guinea pig breeds, developed in South America and brought to France in the 19th century. They were shown at the first recorded guinea pig show in Europe in the 1880s and became popular in the US in the early 1900s.

๐Ÿง  Temperament

Curious and sociable, but high-maintenance due to coat requirements.

๐Ÿ  Care Notes

Daily grooming is essential to prevent matting and tangles. Many owners keep the coat trimmed for practical care. Regular baths may be needed.

โœจ Fun Fact

A Peruvian's hair never stops growing โ€” without trimming, it can completely cover their face.
